“The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch,
a King who will reign wisely
    and do what is just and right in the land.”

Fast forward to the time of Jeremiah, the people are on the cusp of exile. Jeremiah pleads with the people for 40 years to turn back to the Lord, but they do not head his warning and eventually they are overwhelmed by Babylon.

In the midst of the book there is a messianic prophecy about the Christ who will come and save everyone. But no one knew what it meant before destruction.

Even as the people lived in opposition to their God, living in darkness, he made a way for them.

This is why Christmas is important.

God moves first.
